The federal government has stated it is investigating the situation after reports from Burkina Faso indicated that a Nigerian Air Force C-130 plane was compelled to land in Bobo Dioulasso following an alleged breach of the nation’s airspace.
In an interview with reporters on Tuesday in Abuja, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mentioned that authorities were still collecting information.
“We are keeping an eye on the situation and will release a statement once we have sufficient details,” he said to journalists.
PUNCH Online earlier reportedthat the Government of Burkina Faso stated a Nigerian Air Force plane with eleven troops had to land in the nation on Monday following claims of entering its airspace.
The event took place on Monday and was initially reported by the Agence d’Information du Burkina, which released a statement from the Confederation of Sahel States.
As per the report, the plane, which had two crew members and nine soldiers on board, performed an emergency landing while flying over Burkina Faso’s airspace.
The statement mentioned that an inquiry conducted by Burkinabe officials “pointed out the lack of permission to fly over Burkina Faso’s territory for this military equipment.”
The Confederation of Sahel States has announced that a C-130 plane from the Air Force of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had to land today, December 8, 2025, in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, due to an in-flight emergency while it was flying over Burkinabe territory.
“The military aircraft carried two (2) crew members and nine (9) passengers, all of whom were military personnel,” stated the Sahel regional organization.
Officials in Burkina Faso later mentioned that an inquiry “revealed the lack of permission to fly over Burkina Faso’s territory for this military equipment.”
The Confederation denounced the action as an infringement on sovereignty, stating, “it condemns this violation of its airspace and the sovereignty of its member States with the utmost firmness.”
It also cautioned that its air and air defense forces had been put on full alert and “were authorized to disable any aircraft that would breach the Confederate space.”
