The Special Advisor to Gov. Ahmad Aliyu on Security Issues, retired Col. Ahmad Usman, has praised the Nigerian Army for the notable achievements made in combating banditry within the state.

This information was included in a statement jointly signed by Usman and released to journalists on Tuesday in Sokoto.

He mentioned that the military forces effectively stopped a number of bandits in Sabon Birni Local Government Area who tried to attack merchants moving from Tarah village to the weekly market.

The quick reaction, expertise, and bravery shown by our armed forces prevented what might have been a devastating event and once more demonstrated their dedication to safeguarding the lives and assets of our citizens.

“The state government highly values this initiative and recognizes the ongoing sacrifices of our security personnel,” Usman stated.

The Nigerian Army has reportedly eliminated 13 suspected outlaws and seized their arms in the villages of Tarah and Karawa within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

NAN also states that troops based in Kurawa close to Kwanan Kimbo were involved in a prolonged firefight with militants on Monday.

A community source, who requested to remain anonymous, informed NAN on Tuesday that the soldiers attacked the terrorists and subsequently tracked them to their base.

The military confronted them in a brutal fight. The outlaws eventually withdrew and escaped to their base beyond the river.

We identified nine terrorist corpses within our region, and an additional four were discovered in the adjacent thicket near the stream.

“Soldiers also retrieved multiple weapons and transported them to Kurawa,” the source mentioned.

A credible military source verified the incident and shared with NAN that it was a intense firefight led by brave soldiers, who eliminated multiple terrorists.

The source mentioned that there were no casualties among the military forces, and noted that eight AK-47 rifles and a significant quantity of ammunition were seized from the rebels.

Although not authorized to comment on the issue, the source indicated that the terrorists faced a significant loss and the operation was carried out by Operation Fansan Yamma.

A source reported that early Friday morning, bandits targeted the Gatawa community, only to be confronted by members of a local security group and a military team who fought back and subdued the militants.

Certain inhabitants of Kurawa and nearby villages marked the military’s achievements and urged the ongoing campaign to protect the communities from various types of assaults.

A representative of Sabon Birni Local Government in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Alhaji Aminu Boza, stated that at least nine corpses thought to belong to terrorists were observed.

Boza mentioned that additional searches were still in progress.

NAN mentions that Gatawa village and several neighboring communities within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area have been targeted by armed robbers.
