Accra Hearts of Oak secured their sixth triumph of the campaign after a closely contested 1-0 win against visiting Nations FC in their Ghana Premier League Matchday 14 encounter held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon on Saturday.
A goal scored by Hamza Issah in the 76th minute, a powerful header, was the key moment that brought the Phobians back to victory and moved them into the top four.
After experiencing a 2-0 loss to Karela United away from home, and also being eliminated from the MTN FA Cup after an unexpected defeat by a team from Division Two, True Life FC had to improve their performance at home in order to regain the support of their fans.
Performing in front of an empty audience, they understood that a victory was essential to encourage their supporters to come back to the stadium.
Nations FC took the first attempt of the match, which missed the target in the initial moments of the game.
However, gradually, the Phobians came back in the second half with renewed energy, using wing play as Ransford Mensah and Mohammed Hussein provided sharp and perilous crosses into the scoring area.
This, without a doubt, led to many tense moments for Nations FC at the back as the Phobians searched for the opening goal.
Issah had several chances in the match where he could have scored but was unable to convert them into goals, causing Head Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani to become visibly angry on the sidelines.
In the 53rd minute, Issah took a volley that struck the crossbar and then sent the rebound over the top of the bar.
A moment later, he once more missed a cross from Hussein, an chance supporters believed would result in the opening goal.
Issah eventually calmed the tensions between Coach Didi Dramani and the Hearts supporters by scoring a goal from a cross by substitute George Paaku in the 69th minute.
Four minutes later, Issah was unfortunate when his shot on goal was cleared off the line by defender Kwame Boakye.
The last kick of the match almost cost the Phobians points when Boakye’s free kick was poorly handled by towering defender Isaac Botchway inside the six-yard area, much to the relief of the Phobian coaching staff.
The win brought Hearts of Oak within three points of Aduana FC, whom they will meet next at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa Ahenkro, while Nations FC will host Young Apostles at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
