Sri Lanka, December 17 – A yellow anaconda hatchling that disappeared from the Dehiwala National Zoological Gardens on December 6 has been located, according to Deputy Director Hemantha Samarasekara, who confirmed this yesterday (16).

The young creature was found concealed beneath a drawer in a cabinet located several meters away from its habitat. Authorities mentioned that the animal had managed to escape via a tiny opening in its enclosure.

Samarasekara stated that the baby anaconda is in excellent condition. “Pythons usually eat every one to two weeks, so there’s no issue with its diet,” he mentioned. The young snake has been put into isolation.

Zoo officials have filed a report with the Dehiwala Police concerning the event.

A yellow anaconda, together with six snakes from three different species, was illegally brought into the country from Thailand by a Sri Lankan woman on September 12, 2024. The creatures were confiscated by Customs at Bandaranaike International Airport and transferred to the Dehiwala Zoo.
