Country aims for 5 million tons of green hydrogen by 2030
India’s Department of New and Renewable EnergyThe (MNRE) has taken actions via the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) to reduce the cost of green hydrogen production in India.
To achieve an annual production of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, India is concentrating on offering financial incentives, infrastructure assistance, and policy adjustments to reduce expenses, as stated by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Yesso Naik in a written response in the Rajya Sabha today.
Under the program designed to encourage electrolyser production, 15 firms have received a combined annual manufacturing capacity of 3,000 MW. The overall incentive provided amounts to $0.48b (₹4,400 crore).
In terms of green hydrogen manufacturing, 18 firms have received a total production capacity of 862,000 tons annually.
In the realm of Green Hydrogen for refineries, two companies have received a combined capacity of 20,000 tonnes annually.
Green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities that are or have been launched prior to 31 December 2030 will receive a 25-year waiver of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) fees, beginning from the project’s start date.
Facilities located within Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have received tariff exemptions for setting up and managing renewable energy infrastructure.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is also backing a Research and Development initiative named ‘Scale-up of Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells (Phase-I)’ with an overall project expense of $9.15 million (₹83.19 crore) aimed at scaling up and developing perovskite tandem solar cell technology domestically.
