The Nigerian Federal Government, via the Nigerian Film Corporation, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with PlotWeaver, an AI-based storytelling platform, to implement AI-powered solutions designed to revolutionize the film sector.

In a statement, the company mentioned that the collaboration was “strategic, timely, and innovative,” and would enhance the storytelling abilities of Nigerian filmmakers, signifying “a new era for the country’s growing film industry.”

The head of Public Relations at the Nigerian Film Corporation, Brian Etuk, mentioned that the partnership supports the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance the growth of the creative sector via technological advancement.

He mentioned that the collaboration would allow filmmakers to explore “creative narrative possibilities driven by Artificial Intelligence,” and noted that the initiative would implement smooth film production procedures across the country.

Etuk mentioned that the AI-driven narrative tools will be implemented throughout the country, covering the six geopolitical regions, and will be available to filmmakers, students in creative disciplines, new talents, and film training centers.

He stated, “The collaborative initiative provides remarkable and smooth film development procedures, utilizing AI-driven advanced narrative tools to be implemented across the country.”

The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Dr. Ali Nuhu, referred to the collaboration as timely and impactful for the sector. “This partnership signifies a crucial move towards a future where cultural narratives merge with advanced technology,” Nuhu stated.

He mentioned that the initiative extended beyond software implementation, emphasizing the significance of cultural ownership and worldwide relevance. “This is not merely about software; it’s about sovereignty in storytelling and providing creators with the ability to share their narratives with precision and respect that transcend Nigeria’s boundaries,” he stated.

The founder and chief executive of PlotWeaver, Oluwole Fagbohun, confirmed that the project’s schedule is feasible, mentioning that the implementation process will take place over the next three years.

Fagbohun mentioned that the initiative would involve obtaining broader support, creating domestic and international implementation structures, and organizing fundraising efforts to aid in platform rollout, education, and skill development.

He stated that PlotWeaver was created to assist filmmakers throughout the entire production process, covering script development, character design, cultural awareness, and market analysis.

“Once the launch strategy is revealed, the platform aims to assist filmmakers by offering resources that promote genuine artistic expression,” he stated.

The collaboration seeks to integrate AI-powered narrative systems into the core of Nigeria’s film industry, enhance the nation’s international storytelling capabilities, draw in financial opportunities, and support smart technologies that empower local perspectives while honoring cultural sensitivities.
