December 27, 2025 (EL FASHER) – The United Nations humanitarian organization (OCHA) reported on Saturday that an evaluation team has arrived in El Fasher, located in North Darfur, marking the first such visit to the city since it was captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) after months of encirclement and intense combat.

The objective is to assess the humanitarian requirements and record breaches affecting civilians, such as the damage to markets, water systems, and assaults on the premises of global relief agencies.

OCHA stated that the visit was the result of “extensive humanitarian discussions” and occurred following months of a blockade that left trapped residents with no choice but to consume animal feed to stay alive. Hundreds of thousands of individuals have left the city and nearby regions since the conflict escalated.

In May 2024, the RSF initiated a significant attack on El Fasher, ultimately capturing the city on October 26. Following the capture, there have been accounts of large-scale killings. On December 16, the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab released satellite images that revealed 150 groups of human remains in the city, offering new proof of extrajudicial executions.

Massad Boulos, the U.S. President’s senior advisor for African matters, expressed approval of the mission’s arrival, highlighting that diplomatic initiatives led by the United States made it possible.

“It’s positive to witness the UN evaluation team eventually arriving in El Fasher,” Boulos stated, advocating for a humanitarian ceasefire and urging the Sudanese military and the RSF to facilitate unrestricted aid distribution to every region.

The “Tasis” forces, a group supporting the RSF, stated that the UN delegation toured multiple displacement camps, the Saudi Hospital, and the regional offices of the World Food Programme (WFP) and UNICEF.

The coalition mentioned that the delegation had safely proceeded to Tawila, a region under the control of the Sudan Liberation Movement headed by Abdel Wahid al-Nur (SLM-AW). Tawila is now home to over 655,000 displaced individuals, with the majority having escaped the violence in El Fasher.
