The United Arab Emirates stated on Tuesday that it is withdrawing its last counterterrorism units from Yemen, citing new security situations and the necessity to protect its staff, as mentioned in an official announcement by the Ministry of Defence.
The ministry stated that this action concludes a reduction process that started in 2019, when the UAE withdrew its direct military presence in Yemen following the completion of its goals within the Saudi-led coalition. Since then, Emirati participation has been restricted to specialized counterterrorism units working in collaboration with global partners.
The statement mentioned that the UAE’s military involvement, which began in 2015, was intended to back Yemen’s globally recognized government and fight extremist organizations, noting that the choice represents a thorough evaluation of present circumstances and a lasting dedication to regional peace.
