Despite ongoing severe cold at the end of the year and beginning of the next, the weather is predicted to slowly become milder on Sunday, the 4th, with daytime temperatures peaking at 10°C. National morning temperatures are expected to vary between -10°C and 2°C, while daytime highs will be between 1–10°C.

As per the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 3rd, strong winds are expected to ease from Sunday afternoon, resulting in a slow increase in temperatures, with readings anticipated to reach typical seasonal levels during the week of the 5th to 11th. Nevertheless, since mid-to-late January is the coldest time of the year, morning temperatures will still stay below freezing despite the overall warming trend.

On the 4th, cloud cover will be widespread across the country, with gradual clearing expected in the capital region and Gangwon Province from the afternoon. Rain or snow is anticipated along the western coast of South Chungcheong Province, while light snow (less than 0.1 cm) is expected in the southern coastal areas of Gyeonggi Province and North Jeolla Province. The total snowfall along the western coast of South Chungcheong Province is projected to be under 1 cm.

Air pollution levels are expected to be “unhealthy” in certain areas of the central region, such as Seoul and southern Gyeonggi Province, while remaining “good” to “moderate” in other regions.

Strong gusts reaching approximately 55 km/h are predicted in the mountainous and eastern coastal regions of Gangwon Province until the 4th. Ongoing high waves from swells will continue to strongly impact beaches and cause overflows over breakwaters in the eastern coastal areas, requiring attention to facility management and preventing coastal safety incidents.
