
President Lee Jae-myung commenced a four-day official trip to China on the 4th, invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The president left for Beijing, China, from Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, on the same day’s afternoon, along with first lady Kim Hea-kyung. Leaders from the Democratic Party of Korea, including Jung Chung-rae, Yun Ho-jung, Minister of the Interior and Safety Kang Hoon-sik, Chief of Staff Woo Sang-ho, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Pang Kun, Acting Ambassador of China to South Korea Kim Jin-a, and other officials, accompanied the president and first lady Kim Hea-kyung.
The president will kick off his initial official agenda with a dinner gathering with Korean expatriates in Beijing on the same day. On the afternoon of the 5th, which marks the second day of the trip, he is scheduled to hold a summit with President Xi and participate in a state banquet.
The South Korea-China summit marks the second meeting since their initial encounter during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on November 1 of last year. Over 10 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) are anticipated to be signed across various sectors such as economy, industry, climate and environment, and transportation, among other areas, after the summit.
