The head of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, recently visited the Tidibale community within the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, promising increased and ongoing military security to those who have been forced to leave their homes due to bandit attacks.

His first significant on-the-ground activity since taking charge occurs as increasing pressure is placed on security forces to bring stability to rural communities in the North-West, an area that has suffered for years from banditry, large-scale kidnappings, and forced migration.

This information was revealed in a statement issued by Olaniyi Osoba, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations 8 Division, on Sunday.

Speaking to locals during the evaluation tour, Major General Koughna stated that the Nigerian Army was “fully dedicated to making sure no community is exposed to lawbreakers,” and mentioned that forces have been stationed in the region permanently.

This trip is part of our preliminary evaluation after the secure return of Tidibale residents who were endangered by raiders.

“Our objective is to safeguard neighborhoods, bring back stability, and enable individuals to engage in agriculture and daily life without anxiety. No section of this community will stay under the grip of outlaws,” he stated.

The GOC called on locals to assist soldiers by providing prompt intelligence, emphasizing that exchanging information was essential for swift action and protecting the neighborhood.

Ensuring security is a shared duty,” he stated. “Through collaboration, we can enhance the safety and strength of our community.

Tidibale and nearby communities have faced multiple assaults in recent years, prompting numerous residents to leave or pay bribes to armed groups.

Community leaders stated that the instability had interfered with agricultural schedules, which form the foundation of the regional economy, and increased the fragility of rural areas.

On behalf of the community, Sarkin Arewa, Alhaji Ibrahim, referred to the Army chief’s visit as comforting for locals who are slowly coming back home following months of unrest.

This trip has rekindled our hope. We thank the Nigerian Army for their work in protecting our community and assisting us in resuming our everyday lives.

“We are assured of the GOC’s dedication to achieving long-term peace,” he stated.

Prior to his visit to Tidibale, Major General Koughna attended an operational briefing at the Isa Forward Operating Base, where the Commanding Officer of the 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha, shared information about the security conditions and military positioning.

Although recent efforts to combat banditry have restored control over certain rural areas, the North-West continues to be one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions, excluding the North-East conflict zone.

Military officials stated that the 8th Division would keep strengthening its presence and work with local partners to establish lasting peace and security throughout Sokoto State and the broader North-West region.
