The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on the personnel of the Nigerian Army’s 6th Division stationed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to maintain ongoing security across the nation in order to support oil production in the Niger Delta.
Speaking at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Shaibu addressed the troops of the Division during his first operational visit to Headquarters 6 Division, located at Port Harcourt Barracks in Rivers State, and assured officers and soldiers of the Division that their well-being is a key concern.
He urged the troops to keep fulfilling their duties in safeguarding vital national infrastructure, stating that since taking command, he has toured different formations and units to gain direct insight into their operational preparedness and reevaluate their challenges.
He mentioned that specific actions are being implemented to tackle these issues, reassuring staff that he highly values the well-being of officers, soldiers, and their families.
He also called on them to maintain discipline, commitment, and dedication toward achieving the Division’s objectives while following his leadership principles.
He stated, “I want to assure you that the Nigerian Army will handle your work-related matters, which is our highest priority. You will receive what you deserve and what you are entitled to. This will significantly help in addressing some of the housing challenges.”
Previously, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, stated that the soldiers were prepared to carry out the command’s responsibilities.
