Both Mr. A, a man in his 30s who stated he sent a drone to North Korea, and Mr. B, a man in his 30s charged with building the drone, were discovered to have been employed at the presidential office under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration.

A reliable source with knowledge of the situation states that Mr. A was employed as a contract worker in the presidential office under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. He is now reportedly attending the graduate program in journalism at a well-known private university in Seoul. Previously, he held a leadership position in a conservative-oriented university student group.

Mr. B was also said to have been employed at the presidential office during the same period as Mr. A. In November of last year, Mr. B was referred to prosecutors for allegedly operating an unregistered drone in the Yeoju region of Gyeonggi Province, violating the Aviation Security Act. The drone model confiscated at that time is reportedly identical to the one at the center of the current dispute. Previously, both the military and police had concluded there were no elements of anti-aircraft crime, based on Mr. B’s statement that the drone was a test flight of a device developed in a laboratory.

Mr. A and Mr. B are senior and junior students at a private university in Seoul. In 2023, they established a drone production company with the university’s assistance, with Mr. A as CEO and Mr. B as director. The two were also recognized for organizing and managing a youth group focused on unification in 2020.

In an interview with Channel A on the 16th, Mr. A stated, “I sent the drone to North Korea,” explaining that it was done to check concerns about uranium plant pollution and nuclear wastewater. He further mentioned, “Mr. B built the drone at my request but did not take part in its flight or operation.” The investigation team intends to call Mr. A for questioning soon.

On the 17th, Kim Ji-ho, a representative of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated, “All potential factors, including any links or orchestrators, should remain under consideration, and the truth needs to be uncovered.”
