Air travel from Thailand is about to become more expensive, as departure charges are scheduled to increase by over 50% at six of the nation’s most active international airports beginning May 2026.
Thailand intends to increase the passenger service charge (PSC) for international departures to 1,120 baht (US$35), compared to the present rate of 730 baht, as reported by the nation’s airport management company, Airports of Thailand.
An increased fee will be applicable for passengers departing from Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Bangkok, along with Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai. The charges for domestic flights will stay the same.Mothership reported.
The suggested rise, amounting to a 53% increase, has been provisionally approved by Thailand’s aviation regulators and is pending final approval from the transport minister,Bangkok Post reported.
Thailand’s airports stated that the increased fee is expected to have little impact on travelers, stating that passenger demand is primarily influenced by airfares and total travel expenses rather than airport charges alone. In contrast to many nations, Thailand does not impose such fees on incoming or transit passengers.
The revised fee is anticipated to generate approximately 10 billion baht annually, with officials stating that the funds will be allocated for enhancing airport security systems and passenger amenities such as restrooms, electrical infrastructure, and air conditioning. A portion of the extra revenue will also be reserved to support upcoming airport developments and reduce debt-related expenses.
