The Lagos State GovernmentOn Sunday, the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) was sealed due to alleged repeated violations of environmental regulations.
The announcement of the closure was made by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, through a message posted on X.
He stated that the action came after ongoing violations, such as the random disposal of waste on road dividers and highways, along with unauthorized street vending.
“The Lagos State government, this morning, closed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located on Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) due to ongoing environmental violations; uncontrolled waste disposal on the median/highway and unauthorized street vending,” he stated.
The automobile spare parts market in Ladipo, a key center for car components in Mushin, was closed as part of the state’s continuous efforts to enforce environmental regulations and uphold public order.
Authorities stated that this action highlights the government’s strict position against environmental damage, incorrect waste disposal, and activities that block traffic and pose risks to public safety.
The state administration has consistently cautioned merchants and locals about engaging in street vending and illegal waste management, emphasizing that measures will remain in place to target those who violate the rules throughout the city.
