Keira Knightley and Ben Whishawshow emotion in an initial glimpse of what’s coming in the much-anticipated second season ofNetflix spy thriller Black Doves.
The performers were spotted on location inLondontheir Trafalgar Square this week as they filmed a scene depicting them both in a sincere hug.
Keira, aged 40, and Ben, 45, appeared anxious during the scenes where they were positioned next to the famous landmark.
They were filming in the rainy capital on Thursday night, with Keira wrapped in a longtrench coatfor the scene set to debut during its second season.
The initial season of Black Doves emerged as one of the most discussed UK series on Netflix –commended for its elegant graphics, complex spy storyline, and exceptional acting from its leading stars.
The show, which also featuresHappy ValleyActress Sarah Lancashire received 60 million views within a week of its release in December 2024.
Keira will once again play the role of Helen Webb, the wife of a Conservative politician who lives a hidden life as a secret agent, in the second season.
Ben will return as Sam Young, a proficient killer, friend, and ex-student of Webb, who has come back to London to assist in the investigation of her lover Jason Davies’ murder.
After the murder, the pair struggle to safeguard Helen as she discovers her identity as a ‘Black Dove’ and faces danger following Jason’s mysterious death.
A second season was announced in December 2024, featuring a clip of Keira and Ben celebrating the launch of their highly successful first season.
The official X account of Netflix shared a 30-second video featuring Keira as her character Helen and Ben as Sam Young at a bar.
In the video, Keira went up to Ben and said “Merry Christmas” softly into his ear, prompting him to respond with “Hello dear” as they embraced.
Breaking the fourth wall, Keira lifted her champagne glass and spoke to the camera: “Here’s to Black Doves season one,” to which Ben responded: “Don’t forget season two, darling.”
The couple then took two golden bullets from small red envelopes and simultaneously placed them into their champagne glasses before the title screen showed up and the clip concluded.
Its debut series, which first aired in 2024, received a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from viewers just one day after its release.
Based in London during December, the suspenseful film centers on Keira’s role as Helen, an operative who conveys confidential information she has discovered from her politician spouse (Andrew Buchan) to the Black Doves group.
Helen has been overseeing the company – led by the mysterious Reed (Sarah Lancashire) – political information for 10 years, but her role is jeopardized when the secret lover of a two-child mother, Jason (Andrew Koji), is killed.
The show was so well-liked, it even reached Kensington Palace.
While distributing Christmas gifts to children and families at an event for the 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment in Wiltshire,Prince Williamit was revealed that he and Princess Catherine have been watching Black Doves together.
No official release date has been announced for the second season of Black Doves, as filming is currently ongoing in London.
The first season of Black Doves can be watched on Netflix.
