• Shaun Edwards faces charges related to alleged domestic abuse
  • He established the fashion brand House of Darwin.

A former AFLformer athlete who became a clothing brand owner has been accused of an allegeddomestic violence incident last year.

Shaun Patrick Edwards, 32, received a temporary restraining order in June 2025 after an alleged event in May.

He was subsequently charged in February with severe assault, suffocation, and neck compression.

On Friday, his attorney Vanessa Farmer informed the Darwin Local Court that he plans to challenge the allegations and the domestic violence order,ABC News reports.

The application for a domestic violence order (DVO) against Edwards was ‘clearly connected’ to the charges and will be considered at the same time as the criminal case.

Ms. Farmer stated that Edwards wished for the order to be removed before his criminal charges were resolved, although Judge Therese Austin mentioned that it could “possibly take a long time.”

Judge Austin stated that challenging the DVO in a different hearing from the charges would be ‘very damaging’ to Edwards.

‘Conducting two hearings where the protected individual and the respondent present evidence and undergo cross-examination on multiple occasions, with all witnesses appearing in court to address the same issues in a domestic violence claim… is not in the interest of justice,’ she stated.

Edwards is scheduled to enter a not guilty plea to the charges, and in July of last year, his attorney Matthew Huber informed the court that claims of misconduct were firmly refuted.

He mentioned that his client and the protected individual were experiencing a ‘difficult divorce’,NT News reported.

The matter is scheduled to be addressed in court on May 18. Edwards is not obligated to be present.

The same week that his case was reviewed, Edwards’s House of Darwin was revealed as an official collaborator of the Darwin music festival Bass in the Grass.

The company, established in 2020, is an NT-focused apparel brand that works with local First Nations artists.

It has previously collaborated with AFLW, Melbourne Football Club, and Charles Darwin University, as well as partnered with Havaianas, Afends, and Merrell.

Earnings from the label, which positions itself as a social enterprise in the fashion industry, are directed towards supporting social initiatives in isolated Indigenous areas.

The achievement of House of Darwin enabled Edwards to participate in a one-week executive education program at Harvard Business School in 2025.

Prior to entering the fashion industry, he had a short stint in AFL with Essendon and Greater Western Sydney, retiring when he was 23.

He spent a year at Sydney University in the NEAFL and relocated to Los Angeles in the United States to collaborate with AIME Mentoring – an organization that supports underprivileged young people globally.

He subsequently went back to Australia, where he introduced House of Darwin.
