A fire started in a freight truck passing through the Bukhang Tunnel on the Incheon-Gimpo Expressway (Incheon-Gimpo Highway) part of the Seoul Metropolitan Area’s Second Beltway, causing a temporary stop in traffic.

As reported by the Incheon Fire Department on the 13th, the fire broke out approximately at 5:44 a.m. that day inside a 4.5-ton freight truck traveling through the Bukhang Tunnel on the Incheon-Gimpo Expressway in Jung-gu, Incheon.

Vehicles heading to Gimpo were briefly managed through the Bukhang Tunnel because of a fire. No injuries were reported.

Over 65 officials, such as firefighters, along with 23 pieces of machinery, including pumping vehicles, were sent to the scene and successfully put out the fire by approximately 6:18 a.m.

Law enforcement and emergency services are examining the specific origin of the fire, which is thought to have begun close to the back wheels of the freight truck and then spread to the goods in the truck’s cargo area, leading to the flames increasing.
