The NFL community is grieving after the passing of a formerArizonaHead coach of the Cardinals, Dave McGinnis, died on Monday at the age of 74.

Famously known in the league as ‘Coach Mac,’ McGinnis passed away at a Nashville hospital, surrounded by his family, after battling an illness.

The TennesseeThe Titans, where McGinnis spent much of his professional journey as a coach and radio analyst, announced the information in a statement on Monday night.

“Our most heartfelt sympathies go to the family of Dave ‘Coach Mac’ McGinnis, who passed away on Monday afternoon in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones,” stated the Titans’ official message.

McGinnis was a well-liked individual whose coaching journey lasted more than four decades, featuring a notable period as the leader of the Cardinals between 2000 and 2003.

He came to Arizona in 1996 as the team’s defensive coordinator, gaining a reputation for developing strong defenses before being elevated to the highest position.

Prior to his tenure in Arizona, he spent ten seasons serving as the linebackers coach for the Chicago Bears under Mike Ditka and Dave Wannstedt, contributing to the team’s continued defensive success.

His career in the NFL progressed with the Titans, where he worked as a linebackers coach from 2004 to 2011, later moving with Jeff Fisher to the St. Louis Rams.

In recent years, McGinnis has smoothly moved into the media industry, working as a color analyst for the Titans Radio Network since 2017.

In the meantime, Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill released the following statement regarding McGinnis’ death: ‘We were profoundly saddened by the news of Dave McGinnis’ passing and offer our sincere condolences to everyone who knew and cherished him.’

As Dave frequently mentioned, he was a ‘ballcoach’ at heart, and no one ever approached that position with greater energy, excitement, and charm.

Coach Mac had a deep passion for the sport and all its aspects—every person and element connected to it, particularly his athletes. He was unique and will be deeply missed.
