Iran’s former exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi was covered in a red substance on Thursday as he exited a building in Berlin.

Pahlavi had recently left a press conference where he criticized the truce between the United States and Iran, when the event took place outside Germany’s federal newsroom building.

He seemed unharmed by the substance covering the back of his jacket and neck, and he waved at his supporters before entering a vehicle that drove off. Authorities stated the liquid appeared to be tomato juice.

The individual suspected of the crime, whose name was not disclosed according to German privacy regulations, was swiftly taken into custody by authorities.

Pahlavi, 65, is the son of Iran’s former monarch, who was so despised that millions took to the streets in 1979 to compel him to step down.

Still, Pahlavi is attempting to present himself as a key figure in his nation’s future, although it remains uncertain how much backing he receives in Iran following almost five decades of exile.

Thousands of his followers gathered on Thursday close to Germany’s parliamentary complex, as reported by the German news agency dpa.

Pahlavi, who did not receive an invitation to meet with any government officials during his trip to Berlin, stated on Thursday that the ceasefire agreement relies on the Iranian government altering its conduct and “you’ll be dealing with individuals who have suddenly turned into pragmatists.”

I don’t think that will occur,” he remarked. “I’m not claiming that diplomacy shouldn’t be given an opportunity, but I believe it has already had sufficient opportunity.

Pahlavi is seeking to regain authority if the Shia theocracy collapses and has backed the US-Israeli military action in the Middle East.

Pahlavi in Berlin urged Europeans to increase their support for Iranians struggling for democratic rights.

He stated that 19 political detainees were put to death by Iranian officials in the last two weeks, with an additional 20 individuals receiving death sentences.

“What will the free world do, or will it remain silent while the massacre occurs?” Pahlavi stated.

Meanwhile, over an hour after the event, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz issued a statement expressing that the government supports the extension of the ceasefire.

This offers a significant chance to restart diplomatic talks in Islamabad, with the goal of achieving peace and preventing further intensification of the conflict,” the statement mentioned. “Tehran must take advantage of this opportunity.
