Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has faced backlash from gospel musician Testimony Jaga after his recent rejection of the “prosperity gospel” belief.
A senior pastor named Osinbajo previously dismissed the idea that wealth and good health are assured by faith, noting that these beliefs are not central to Christian teachings. He expressed these views during a live discussion at Rock of Ages Christian Assembly International, in response to points made by Pastor Korede Komaiya.
In a video that gained significant attention, Testimony Jaga strongly condemned the former vice-president, arguing that the gospel message must tackle both spiritual and physical requirements.
“There is nothing like that. There is only a gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ, sir,” he stated.
The vocalist challenged Osinbajo’s right to comment on religious teachings, stating that his political background weakened his reliability in matters of faith.
“Respectfully, sir, I wish to confront you directly… reveal to Nigerians what you accomplished during your tenure as vice president,” Jaga said.
He went on to criticize Osinbajo’s tenure during the previous presidency of Muhammadu Buhari, claiming that the government did not tackle major national issues.
“Did you step down as a devoted Christian when they requested it, sir?” he inquired.
Jaga also raised concerns about the effects of Osinbajo’s leadership on regular Nigerians, especially regarding efforts to reduce poverty and improve social welfare.
“Prove to us how many impoverished individuals you have truly assisted… demonstrate one school you have constructed,” he further remarked.
The transaction has sparked renewed discussion among Nigeria’s Christian population regarding the understanding of the gospel and the impact of wealth-focused teachings, as analysts highlight the increasing overlap between faith, governance, and societal responsibility.
