Actor Kim Jung-tae was moved to tears as he remembered his fight against liver cancer.

In the TV Chosun show “Dad and Me,” which was broadcast on the 27th, the everyday routines of Kim Jung-tae along with his two sons, Ji-hoo and Si-hyun, were showcased.

At the conclusion of the broadcast that day, a preview video depicting Kim’s liver cancer examination was also made available. The footage showed Kim visiting a university hospital for a health check-up and undergoing blood tests and CT scans.

He stated, “Our family has a weak liver,” and “I was diagnosed with liver cancer in October 2018 and underwent surgery in November of that year.”

Kim also mentioned that he had suffered from cirrhosis three times. He said, “After completing the film ‘Friend,’ I shot ‘Bet on My Disco,’ but I didn’t talk about my pain in case I got fired. I overexerted myself during action rehearsals, and fluid built up in my abdomen.” He further noted, “While filming ‘Stray Dog,’ it came back, and I kept it hidden during production.”

The treating doctor, following a review of the test findings, stated, “The ‘seed’ of the liver cancer you previously had is still present. It has the potential to turn into cancer at any moment,” and “If it becomes too challenging to manage, removing the liver might be a possibility.”

When she heard this, Kim’s wife was concerned about his well-being, and remarked, “So, look after yourself. Don’t stress about the children so much…” Kim responded by nodding and stating, “When my health worsened, I understood that nothing else is important besides my family.”

During an interview with the production crew, Kim said, “I came to understand that the only ones who offer me comfort and stay with me are my young children and my wife,” and “For the sake of my family, I can’t give up on my health. I need to be a strong father,” while holding back his tears.

“Father and I” is broadcast every Wednesday at 10 PM.
