, May 2 — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Sylhet on Saturday morning, marking his first official trip to the city since taking office.
He arrived at Osmani International Airport at 10:05 am via a domestic flight, along with his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, according to Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary, as reported by UNB.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Kaiyum Chowdhury, Divisional Commissioner Mashiur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam, and other high-ranking officials welcomed the Prime Minister at the airport.
From the airport, Tarique went directly to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R), where he is set to recite fateha.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister departed from his Gulshan home towards Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at approximately 8:25am.
Throughout the full-day visit, he will lay the cornerstone of a Sylhet City Corporation initiative at Chandni Ghat designed to alleviate flooding in the city and deliver a speech at a local assembly.
At midday, he is set to launch the renewed excavation of the Baisha River in Kashipur Union, located within Sylhet Sadar upazila.
Following the Zuhr prayer and lunch at the Circuit House, the Prime Minister is scheduled to open the Notun Kuri Sports-2026 event at the Sylhet District Stadium at 3:00pm.
Tarique Rahman is also set to join a gathering of party leaders and members at the Shilpakala Academy later today.
He is anticipated to come back to Dhaka in the evening.
This will mark Tarique Rahman’s initial trip to Sylhet during his tenure as Prime Minister.
He made his final visit to the city on January 21 while campaigning for the 13th parliamentary election, marking his first trip to Sylhet in almost twenty years.
