Walters has numerous animals living on his property, but thecatis the most sassy by far. In the video below, we see the cute feline lounging on a beautiful rock in the green area, but when Walters’ dog and baby lamb become interested in checking out the rock, the cat has absolutely no patience for it.

The dog tries first, but immediately, the cat bats him aside, descending from his perch to confirm the dog won’t attempt another try for rock dominance.

In the meantime, the lamb walks into view. The cute animal is happy munching on grass initially, but soon notices the cat resting and thinks,I’d like to give it a shot!

That’s a shame, little lamb! As soon as thebaby sheepThe cat leaps onto the rock, returning to a defensive stance, batting at his lamb sister until she falls back down, only for the cat to pursue her, making sure the rock remains his personal sunny resting place for future lazy times.

How Territorial Are Cats?

It’s not too unexpected that Walters’ cat wanted to have the rock to himself. As it turns out, cats are very territorial animals.

If you have multiple cats in your home, you’ve likely noticed the unique markings of cats. When a cat takes ownership of an area, it will urinate on it, rub its chin glands, and scratch the surface. These are obvious indicators that the cat is marking its territory!

Some actions provoke these territorial instincts more than others, such as bringing new animals into the household or environment, or taking the cat to a new location, like when relocating. A cat might also feel compelled to mark their territory upon spotting a stray cat through a window.

Cats tend to chase and make noise at any outsiders who get too near their designated space, but you can manage these actions by monitoring initial interactions between animals and by making sure every cat or pet in the house or area has its own unique spot, like several cat trees for multiple cats, and definitely individual litter boxes for each cat in your home.

Certainly, some cats will always defend their territory, and in this instance, Walters’ cat isn’t causing any real damage. He’s simply enjoying being the top cat—and succeeding!
