Political commentators and observers ridiculed the PresidentDonald Trumpon Tuesday following the sudden termination of his new military campaign.

Trump announced on Truth Socialthat he was halting “Project Freedom,” an effort initiated on Sunday aimed at directing vessels from “innocent and neutral” nations out of theStrait of Hormuz. Trump stated that he put the plan into action following communications from multiple countries, which requested his assistance in preventing the Iranian government from attacking their vessels.

“Following the request from Pakistan and other nations, the significant military achievements we have accomplished during the campaign against Iran, and the substantial progress made towards a comprehensive and final agreement with Iranian representatives, we have mutually decided that, although the blockade will continue to be in full effect, Project Freedom (the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be temporarily halted to determine if the agreement can be finalized and signed,” Trump stated.

The action drew immediate ridicule on social platforms.

“So we halted the operation we had just initiated because the previous one that was stuck might move forward diplomatically, but Iran would still be allowed to maintain its blockade, which initially caused the delay. And the U.S. also continues its own blockade. Still confused?” Joel Braunold, a contributing editor at Lawfare,posted on X.
