A 4.0-magnitude earthquake occurred close to Meknes on Saturday night, as reported by Morocco’s National Institute of Geophysics.

The earthquake was detected at 6:33 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located in the village of Ain Jemaa at a depth of approximately 9 kilometers, according to the institute’s report.

Officials stated that the earthquake’s shallow depth caused it to be felt by people throughout the region.

No injuries or physical harm were quickly reported after the earthquake.

Morocco faces occasional earthquakes because of its position close to the border of the African and Eurasian tectonic plates, mainly in the northern and central parts of the nation.
