Chattogram, May 22 – At least four individuals, among them a police officer and two reporters, were hurt when authorities fired blank bullets to break up a group attempting to seize a man charged with an attempted rape in Chattogram city on Thursday evening.

The event occurred in the Chairmanghata region of Bakalia.

As per the police and residents, Monir Hossain, a 35-year-old worker at a local decoration store, is accused of trying to sexually assault a four-year-old child by bringing her into the shop.

When the news of the event became known, furious residents took to the streets and organized demonstrations in the evening.

The police eventually reached the location and arrested the suspect. Nevertheless, as they were taking him to the station, an angry mob obstructed the police car and insisted that he be given to them.

The demonstrators also ignited a police car, causing it to be entirely destroyed.

At a certain point, law enforcement discharged blank ammunition to regain control of the scenario, resulting in four individuals being hurt, among them two reporters and a police officer.

The wounded reporters were recognized as Mamun Abdullah and Nobel Hasan.

As reported by journalists on the scene, Mamun was injured in the waist area, and Nobel sustained wounds to his hand and leg when they were live streaming on Facebook.

They were initially taken to Chattogram General Hospital and then moved to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for more specialized care.

The head officer of the Bakalia Police Station, Mohammad Solaiman, stated that the situation was managed by approximately 11:30 pm and the suspect was arrested.

The child was taken to the hospital for a medical check-up, he mentioned.
