Addis Ababa, May 23, 2026 — The significant involvement of the general public in the 7th General Election shows that Ethiopia’s democratic path is driven by a genuine national desire based on the values of internal discussion, stated Yassin Ahmed, head of the Ethiopian Institute of Public Diplomacy (EIPD), to the Ethiopian Agency.

As stated by the Head, the robust public support for the electoral process conveys a definitive signal to the global community that Ethiopia’s right to make independent decisions is completely protected from any outside influences or demands.

“The widespread involvement in deciding the country’s future conveys a strong signal to the global community that the internal national political will is resistant to external influence, and that the Ethiopian people are the ones who ultimately determine their political path,” he stated.

Yassin mentioned that the organization’s success, fair supervision, and extensive involvement in the election further highlights the nation’s position as the political hub of the continent and the home of the African Union, while offering a motivating and long-lasting democratic example.

He remarked, ‘As the political capital and base of the African Union, Ethiopia functions as a dynamic testing ground for the continent’s achievements.’

The Head also emphasized that the success of this election—due to its well-organized structure, reliable domestic and international monitoring, and extensive involvement—will send a very important message to the global community that Africa is able to handle its democratic changes with wisdom and effectiveness.

Concerning the role of the Ethiopian diaspora, Yassin voiced optimism that the upcoming stage would see constitutional and legal changes allowing Ethiopians with dual citizenship living overseas to vote and engage meaningfully in the upcoming 8th General Election, leveraging their experience in well-established democratic settings.

The Leader ended with a powerful appeal to residents within the nation—particularly young individuals voting for the first time—to avoid political indifference and participate in the election.

Yassin pointed out that their votes serve as the true tool for achieving a significant change in the democratic transformation process and influencing the future of Ethiopia’s internal matters as well as its regional and global interactions.
