Iringa. Tanzanian Prime Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, has urged citizens to resist what he termed as external interference designed to split the country, cautioning that certain people were being exploited for their own benefit to deceive the public and weaken national solidarity.

Dr Nchemba addressed the gathering on Saturday, May 23, 2026, during a working visit to Kichangani Grounds in Iringa Municipality.

He emphasized that Tanzanians should stay loyal and protect unity, which he referred to as the basis for peace and progress.

“As Prime Minister, I have been granted the power to oversee government operations; thus, it is my duty to guarantee the country’s safety and unity,” he stated to the crowd gathered at the rally.

He claimed there were “numerous games” being conducted by people he referred to as agents of discord, accusing them of trying to damage the government’s reputation and incite public fear, while organizing events meant to depict Tanzania as insecure.

“Let me inform Tanzanians that there are numerous games being played against us by these agents. Let us not waste our time on them; those who fail to comprehend should read the Constitution and gain an understanding of it,” he stated.

Speaking about social media reports regarding the claimed kidnapping of an assistant to opposition politician Tundu Lissu, Dr Nchemba mentioned that he had viewed video showing someone being hit and restrained with handcuffs, but referred to it as part of a fabricated story.

He also mentioned that there were multiple events where both citizens and leaders had died, but he claimed that some did not get enough attention since the victims were connected to the ruling CCM.

“Many ward chairpersons have been killed, but it has never been addressed as an issue because they were part of the ruling party,” he stated.

In his speech, Dr Nchemba mentioned previous events such as bomb explosions at churches and public events, stating that these were aimed at destabilizing the nation.

“There was a period when bombs were hurled into different churches and public events, and all these were plots designed to separate us,” he stated.

He also mentioned previous instances of acid attacks against leaders, including a Muslim religious figure, stating that these actions are terrorist in nature and should be denounced by every citizen.

Dr. Nchemba called on Tanzanians to stay alert towards individuals who, according to him, exploit these events to incite hostility rather than foster harmony.

He urged citizens to keep working with the government and security agencies to maintain peace and stability, which he stated had been sustained since the country gained independence.

He also directed security organizations to stay vigilant at all times in order to stop any actions that might endanger public safety and national stability.

“Our security and military agencies need to stay alert and prevent any efforts to split our nation. Tanzania is for everyone, and we should safeguard it with every bit of our power,” he stated.

The Prime Minister’s trip to Iringa Region kept attracting big gatherings, as locals came to hear his speeches and voice their issues, while he highlighted loyalty, togetherness, and harmony.

He had previously toured Mufindi District, was currently in Iringa Municipality, and is set to move on to Kilolo District.
