The organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is providing a reward of HK$10,000 for any details that could help identify the individual possibly involved in the suspected dismemberment and death of a pet cat.

The cat was believed to have died due to poisoning in Hung Hom following the amputation of its tail, according to TVB on Sunday.

A two-year-old cat was housed at a funeral home located on Lo Lung Hang Street in Hung Hom. The manager, who looked after the animal, contacted the police on Sunday following the pet’s return with injuries. The cat had been outside for just a few minutes.

Multiple officers have arrived and are looking into whether animal cruelty is taking place.

“PETA is encouraging anyone who has details about this event to step forward in order to ensure that the individual responsible for this assault is brought to justice before additional animals – or humans – are affected,” stated a representative from the animal protection organization in a press release issued on Monday.

Animal violence is never an isolated matter—it serves as a well-established indicator of a larger potential for violence that can intensify and threaten public safety,” said Jason Baker, President of PETA Asia. “Studies repeatedly demonstrate a significant connection between animal cruelty and violence against people. Officials need to respond quickly and make it clear that such harsh behavior will not be accepted.

The organization dedicated to preventing animal cruelty sent personnel to assist in removing the cat’s body. A initial assessment by a veterinarian indicated that the cat’s tail had been cut off using a sharp instrument.
