Ewha Women’s University is scheduled to conduct a “140th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony” at 10 a.m. on the 29th in its primary auditorium.
The event will include Kim Eun-mi, who leads the Ewha Hakdang Board, President Lee Hyang-sook, former chair Jang Myung-soo, past presidents, the leader of the general alumni association, former and present members of the National Assembly, envoys from different nations, university chancellors, academic staff, employees, and students.
The gathering will include a commemorative address from President Lee Hyang-sook, messages of appreciation from former Constitutional Court Justice Jeon Hyo-suk, video greetings, recognition for long-term employees, the “Pride of Ewha Award” and “Ewha Academic Award” ceremonies, a performance by the Ewha Orchestra, and a showing of a 140th-anniversary commemorative video. The event is expected to take around an hour.
At the ceremony, awards will be presented to faculty and staff who have shown commitment to the university’s growth. A total of 109 individuals will be recognized, comprising 21 with 30 years of service, 49 with 20 years, and 39 with 10 years.
The “Pride of Ewha Award,” which honors graduates who have made significant contributions in different areas, and the “Ewha Academic Award,” given to faculty members with remarkable scholarly achievements, will also be presented. This year’s “Pride of Ewha Award” recipients include Kim Jeong-ok, who leads the Kim Hee-kyung European Spiritual Culture Scholarship Foundation; Park Sung-kyung, a former vice chair of E-Land Group; Jane Oh, a senior systems engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory; and Kim Young-ran, a missionary based in Indonesia. The “Ewha Academic Award” will go to Professor Jeong Byung-jun from the Department of History and Professor Lee Sang-hyuk from the Department of Life Sciences.
At 2 p.m. on the same day, the university’s main alumni organization will organize an “Alumni Day” gathering aimed at promoting interaction and unity among former students.
