Britons are moving away from Marbella in favor of Margate, according to unexpected new research showing that many travelers are choosing local getaways this summer.

As temperatures reached 35 degrees during the May heatwave, with millions heading to the beaches to escape the heat, the sunny weather is increasing the desire for classic seaside treats like fish and chips and melting ’99’s.

Recent studies have shown that strolling on the beach with sand beneath your feet is the summer activity that Brits are most excited about this season, as six out of ten individuals state it is their preferred way to spend their vacation.

Almost half are eager for fish and chips, while slightly more than a quarter wish to create more family memories, and over a third want to take more family photos.

More than 25 per cent of Brits stated that swimming in the sea and taking extended walks through the countryside are among their preferred nostalgic summer activities they wish to revive, according to a survey of 2,000 individuals.

Data from temporary vehicle insurance specialists GoShorty also indicates that almost 62 percent of Brits are intending to take a staycation this summer.

Seven out of ten also stated they would typically be thinking about a foreign vacation but are now opting to remain within the UK.

However, it’s not only fish and chips and creating memories that the British are longing for, as classic seaside activities, such as enjoying a traditional ’99’ ice cream, family picnics under the sun, and visiting seaside arcades and 2p machines, are also included in the list.

Some people are eager to partake in traditional British summer pastimes like taking rainy day visits to pubs, staying at caravan parks, and purchasing sticks of rock.

The findings also revealed that three-quarters of people choosing staycations express excitement about a ‘return to simplicity’ summer, free of airport lines, costly flights, and travel issues, as per the survey.

Phil Evans, the Managing Director of GoShorty, stated: “As the 90s nostalgia wave continues to impact fashion, technology, and lifestyle, our data indicates it’s also affecting people’s travel choices this year, with numerous Brits aiming to relive the beach holidays they cherished during their childhood.”

Higher expenses and unpredictability regarding international travel are prompting more families and pairs to remain near their homes, yet this doesn’t imply a desire to sacrifice excitement.

This appears to be affecting where British people are deciding to take their holidays this year, with nearly 62 percent opting for coastal destinations. Rural getaways and city breaks were also favored by many Brits.

Classic British attractions have returned to prominence, featuring the breathtaking Lake District, which houses England’s tallest mountain, Scafell Pike, and its largest lake, Lake Windermere, leading the list of vacation spots with 13 percent – closely trailed by Brighton at 12 percent and Bournemouth at 11 percent.

The survey also revealed that an impressive 90 percent of Brits wish to learn more about the UK this year, with over a third planning a road trip starting from June. This implies that, overall, we are set to take to the roads and drive an average of 191 miles.

There is a rise in the use of motorhomes, with one out of twenty people planning to tour the country in one.

Mr. Evans stated, “Motorhomes are growing more appealing to travelers seeking freedom and flexibility this summer. Whether it’s a seaside getaway, a rural retreat, or a comprehensive road trip across Britain, individuals are adopting the concept of hitting the open road and maximizing the opportunities the UK has to offer.”
