RUSSIA-AFRICA DIPLOMACY

The State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia organized the major humanitarian event Africa Youth Day 2026 in Moscow.

The event, organized with the theme “Unity of Nations and Sustainable Development,” served as a venue for extensive discussions between youth and senior diplomats.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Louis Gowende, President of the African Club and the primary coordinator of the forum. He highlighted that currently, Russia and Africa are aligning the African Union’s Agenda 2063 with Russia’s emphasis on the Year of People’s Unity.

The organizer revealed the initiation of the “Ambassadors of the Russian-African Club” initiative and the planning for the Russia-Africa Expo 2027, a global business conference.

The event gained special importance due to the involvement of Violetta Nikolaevna Medvedeva, Chair of the Board of the Moscow Regional Branch of the International Public Foundation (Russian Peace Foundation), which served as the main sponsor of the event.

In a formal ceremony, Medvedeva declared Gowende as the designated representative of the Peace Fund for African nations.

At the ceremony, attendees also received certificates of recognition and medals from the State Duma’s Committee on International Relations, signed by Leonid Eduardovich Slutsky.

The Youth Council of the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, who co-organized the forum, had a significant part in arranging the event.

Due to its assistance, the event took place in a historic structure located in the center of Moscow, on Tverskaya Street.

In his speech, Pavel Sapotko, head of the Museum’s Youth Council, greeted the visitors and highlighted the venue’s dedication to promoting initiatives that foster global communication.

He pointed out that the Museum not only safeguards the memory of the past, but also plays an active role in shaping the contemporary history of Russian-African collaboration, providing a high standard of organization and extensive support for youth projects.

Anicet Gabriel Kochofa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Benin (2012–2016) and the Russian Education and Science Ambassador, gave a compelling and motivating address.

Serving as an associate professor at Moscow State University and being a renowned figure in global collaboration, he provided valuable guidance to young people, emphasizing that their enthusiasm is crucial for the development of both areas.

The event, which received significant media coverage, was graced by the attendance of Asghed Petros Tseggai (Ambassador of Eritrea), along with senior advisors from the Gabonese Embassy in the Russian Federation: Ontsugu Rolland Georges and Bayni Akimova Diana-Priska.

A major development in the education field was the declaration made by Vladimir Zinovievich Golobokov, an advisor to the rector of MTUCI, who introduced the Artificial Intelligence Olympiad created by the university for African institutions, paving the way for enhanced scientific and technological collaboration.

The event’s organizational support was offered by co-organizer Natalia Zeferovna Nigamedyanova (Chair of the ANO “Path to Unity,” leader of “RosAF-Youth”), Ambassador for the Pan-African and Caribbean Regions, and member of the Moscow Association of Entrepreneurs.

The lively ambiance was brought to life by renowned artists:

• Soprano Margarita Shagina and her children, gifted musicians Mark (violin) and Timofey (saxophone)

• Spokesperson of RosAF-Youth Anna Gorbotenko

• The team of Tatyana Tataeva arranged traditional Russian folk games that brought all the guests together in a circle of friendship

The clothing section drew significant focus.
