The Kogi State Police Command has announced that it effectively carried out an extensive training session on firearm handling and shooting skills for 565 Constables.
As per the directive, this was included in continuous initiatives aimed at improving operational effectiveness, expertise, and customer service within the Nigeria Police Force.
A statement released on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said, “The training, which began on April 13th, 2026, and continued for two months, was conducted in accordance with the strategic vision and programs of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, with the goal of enhancing the capabilities of police officers to efficiently tackle modern security issues and enhance public safety.”
During the graduation ceremony at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja, the Police Commissioner of Kogi State Command, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, praised the attendees for their hard work, obedience, and dedication during the training phase.
The CP revealed that the program aimed to provide officers with the necessary knowledge and hands-on skills for the safe management, upkeep, and proper utilization of weapons, while also promoting the values of professionalism, responsibility, and respect for human rights.
He pointed out that the Nigeria Police Force should keep utilizing the vigor, capabilities, and potential of its younger officers via ongoing training programs to create a more effective and adaptable law enforcement system.
Kankarofi urged the graduating Constables to maintain discipline and apply their acquired knowledge wisely, highlighting that the weapons given to officers are intended only for safeguarding lives and property and should be managed with complete responsibility and professionalism.
He also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his consistent dedication to staff development and operational excellence, as well as to the trainers and facilitators whose contributions ensured the program’s successful implementation.
“The Kogi State Police Command is dedicated to enhancing the skills of its staff via ongoing training and retraining initiatives, in alignment with the Inspector-General of Police’s goal of establishing a professionally capable, service-oriented, and community-focused police force,” he further stated.
