John Terry has warned Marc Cucurella’s Chelseaexit will represent a significant setback for the Blues, with the timing of the decision appearing unfavorable so soon afterXabi Alonso’s arrival.

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brightonsecured a £60 million transfer in the summer of 2022 and, following a challenging initial season in west London, became a key first-team player at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are currently looking for a new player however afterReal Madrid announced the acquisition of the Spanish international playerin a £51m agreement earlier this week.

Cucurella was also being considered by Barcelona andAtletico Madrid while Manchester City also showed interest in his servicesbut he is now included in Jose Mourinho’s strategies to help Real emerge from the difficulties they faced at the end of the previous season.

Chelsea’s 2025-26 season was even more disappointing, ending with a 10thfinish with two permanent managers, Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, having been dismissed.

Alonso is currently in charge, hoping he can address the numerous problems that affected the Blues during the previous season.

Former captain Terry, however, is concerned that the exit of a key player like Cucurella so soon after the arrival of the new head coach is not a positive sign, and he also worries that the team will miss him greatly next season.

“He’s going to be a significant loss,” Terry said.Pierce Morgan UncensoredHe has been one of our top contributors over the past two or three years, so it will be a significant loss.

I believe that for Alonso, coming through the door and then walking out again doesn’t look promising.

He’s [Cucurella] exactly Mourinho’s type when it comes to the traits, demeanor, and approach he demonstrates every day, both in training and during matches.

One player he will be pleased with is [Bukayo] Saka, as the two had some excellent confrontations against each other, so he will be a significant loss for us.

He recently mentioned that he wanted to go, and it’s likely been his dream to join Real Madrid, so I have nothing but positive things to say about him and I wish him good luck.
