MP for Thika Town, Alice Ng’ang’a, has arrived at Ruiru Sub-County Hospital following claims of new mothers being held against their will.

Ng’ang’a and her group are said to have visited the facility without prior notice on Thursday, June 18, creating a disturbance. The hospital administration raised concerns about her purpose, noting that they couldn’t permit her to create unrest in a serene environment housing patients.

“Why have you come here to create a disturbance? Are you planning to remove them from this facility through force? We are unable to permit that. Can you return? This is a hospital and it must be treated with respect. Let us adhere to the established protocol,” stated the hospital’s administration.

Although they had worries, Ng’ang’a expressed her dissatisfaction with the hospital for reportedly holding mothers for three months.

How many mothers were held at Ruiru Sub-County Hospital?

She mentioned that she was willing to pay the bill, even if it reached KSh 1 million, to enable the stranded and distressed mothers to return to their families. Her documents indicated that the total cost for the 24 mothers was KSh 370,970.

“Take me to the cashier, city official. The mothers are leaving today. They have been here for three months; I am a mother. I have the money with me and have come to settle the bill. I respect the hospital; all I want is a chance to pay for the 24 mothers. The total is KSh 376,970; these mothers are going home today,” she protested.

Kenyan citizens expressed varied responses to the event; numerous individuals condemned the Social Health Authority (SHA) for not adequately supporting patients, while others alleged that Ng’ang’a was exploiting her action for political purposes.
