- Emma Faith Oyugi, a 22-year-old graduate from JKUAT, passed away following reports of her falling from the fourth floor of her residence in Juja.
- Her family has challenged the assertion that she died by suicide, believing there may have been external involvement, and mentioned that she had thrilling plans for her future.
- Speaking to .co.ke, Emma’s aunt described the tragic events that occurred following her passing and urged the DCI to offer explanations.
A wave of sorrow envelops a family in Homa Bay County after the passing of their cherished 22-year-old daughter, Emma Faith Oyugi.

Emma, the sole daughter of her mother, was discovered deceased outside Executive Plaza Apartments, where she had been residing in Juja.
It is reported that the young woman fell from the fourth floor of the building on the night of June 5, a statement her family has firmly rejected.
Speaking to .co.ke, Emma’s aunt, Damaris, stated that her niece completed her studies at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in December 2025, earning a degree in Financial Engineering.
Following her graduation, she kept advancing her education through professional programs, such as ACCA and additional accounting certifications.
“She had resided in that apartment in Juja for five years. Indeed, my son also lived there prior to finishing his studies. There’s no possibility she took her own life. She was already preparing to enroll in a master’s program after finishing her professional courses. We believe she was pushed from the fourth floor,” said an emotional Damaris.
How did Emma Oyugi, a graduate of JKUAT, pass away?
The aunt in mourning mentioned that the police were contacted at the location and, following their investigation, Emma’s body was moved to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika.
As per the family, the event was first considered to be self-inflicted. Nevertheless, a young man who was said to have been with Emma prior to the fall was subsequently arrested.
“The young man says my niece was intoxicated. Emma didn’t consume any alcohol, and there’s no way someone who was drunk could have passed her room, climbed the high balcony rails, and fallen. This explanation doesn’t make sense to us,” Damaris said.
She added that Emma’s mother got a call around 4 a.m. telling her that her daughter had passed away.
Unable to travel right away, she asked family members to recognize the body. Emma’s cousin went to the morgue that morning and verified the sad news.
Questions about the embalming process arise within the family
Nevertheless, when Damaris and other relatives reached the General Kago Funeral Home at approximately 11:30 am on Saturday, June 6, they allegedly had to wait for around 40 minutes prior to seeing the body.
When they were permitted to enter, the body had already undergone embalming.
“When my nephew arrived in the morning, her body hadn’t been preserved. However, when we arrived later, the procedure had already taken place. We inquired who gave permission for it, as embalming typically requires the family’s approval and payment of the necessary fee,” she stated.
Damaris mentioned that the family reached out to government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who reportedly verified that the body had already undergone embalming.
She stated that after embalming has been performed, conducting toxicology tests can become challenging or unfeasible, which might hinder attempts to identify the precise cause of death.
Consequently, the autopsy mainly showed bodily damages.
“We inquired about the urgency, but the only response we received was an apology. A post-mortem carried out on Monday revealed that she had fractured ribs on the front of her chest. Her collarbone was also broken, and multiple discs in her spinal cord had become dislodged. We were informed that she fell with her face upward. Emma also had a blood clot at the back of her head, although the area remained completely undamaged,” she disclosed.
Emma had recently obtained a position.
Damaris portrayed Emma as a talented young woman and a beacon of hope for her family.
Prior to her passing, she had obtained a position and was scheduled to start work on Monday, June 8, which her aunt mentioned she was very enthusiastic about.
“She had gathered all her paperwork and stocked up on necessities while waiting for Monday. She was full of energy, and now her mother remains in shock. She has no one left,” said Damaris.
Emma’s mother is a widow, which makes the loss even more painful for the family.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who are overseeing the case continue to examine the details related to Emma’s passing.
As per the family, the apartment complex was equipped with CCTV cameras solely on the ground floor, and these cameras were said to be non-functional during the incident.
“We are hoping for resolution. I understand that this won’t bring her back, but we seek justice for Emma. Something occurred, and we aren’t being given the full details,” Damaris stated.
