A trendy restaurant in New York Citywas suddenly closed following the discovery that the celebrity gathering place was reportedly owed over $1.2 million in taxes.

Kiki’s, a well-known Greek eatery located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, abruptly shut its doors on Tuesday following a state seizure due to a significant unpaid tax debt, according to documents.

The eatery, managed by Pavlos Sierros, was covered in an orange seizure notice from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance following the issuance of 12 tax warrants.

Kiki’s, operated by Chinatown Greek Food Services LLC, has a total debt of $607,835 through six tax warrants spanning from May 2025 to April 2026, according to records.

As the proprietor of the LLC, Sierros, who verified the confiscation of the restaurant toBloomberg, has a total tax debt of $603,861 due to six more warrants issued between September 2025 and April 2026.

According to records, Sierros also has a personal debt of $183,674 related to four individual income tax warrants.

The restaurant, which opened in 2015 in Dimes Square, was forced to close due to a $1.2 million unpaid loan.

It will be a shock to many, including celebrities like Timothée Chalamet and others who often visited the restaurant.

Customers are now greeted by a sign that points them to the sister restaurant of Kiki’s, called Forgtmenot, which is still open and operating.

“Kiki’s is located across the street,” a note affixed beneath the vibrant orange seizure warning sign stated.

“We’ll ‘Seized’ you later,” was also written on top of the seizure notice.

Kiki’s has kept a reputation for reasonable prices and celebrity appearances, even being featured on Gwyneth Paltrow’sGoop recommendation site.

Jason Osiason, a 33-year-old regular customer of the eatery, shared with Bloomberg: ‘It’s painful how exceptional the ambiance and the cuisine truly are.’

“There’s an endless wait that might last longer than most NYC relationships, and they’re giving me glasses of house wine in chalices that seem unusually inexpensive compared to other places in the area,” he added.

Creative Director and Fashion Designer Musa, who has collaborated with artists such as Jaden Smith, captured footage of fans assembled outside the closed restaurant.

KiKi’s provides budget-friendly Greek cuisine, featuring items like grilled octopus, taramosalata, branzino, and moussaka.

The eatery does not have its own signs and instead utilizes those from a Chinese printing company that occupied the space prior to the current owners opening their business.

The Daily Mail contacted Sierros, Chinatown Greek Food Services LLC, and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for their response.
