It’s the airline that countless people rely on to take us on vacation each year.

But TuiAirways has found itself among the least reliable airlines for UK flight on-time performance.

UK flights were, on average, 20 minutes and 24 seconds late last year, according to data from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The route with the fewest punctual flights, having at least 100 departures, wasBirmingham to Zante in Greece, with an average delay of 46 minutes.

Tui Airways is part of the Tui Group, which also manages the UK’s second-largest package tour provider. A significant number of its passengers utilize the airline, which flies to over 20 British airports.

Aage Dunhaupt from Tui Group stated, “reducing delays continues to be a primary concern.” He mentioned that the airline conducts flights “as much as possible, even if they experience delays, instead of calling them off.”

He stated: ‘If we were to adopt more common industry methods of canceling flights more frequently, our on-time performance would see a major improvement. However, this would be at the cost of our passengers.’

The CAA’s on-time performance review considered all scheduled and charter UK departures from 34 airlines that conducted over 2,500 such flights in 2025 – flights that were canceled were excluded.

Tui placed fifth in terms of reliability. Air India maintained the worst record for the second consecutive year, experiencing an average delay exceeding 36 minutes. Scandinavian Airlines achieved the top performance, with UK flights delayed by an average of eight minutes.

The typical delay for all airlines considered in the study was 14 minutes and 48 seconds – a decrease from 18 minutes and 18 seconds in 2024.

Rory Boland from the consumer magazine Which? Travel stated that it is “unacceptable” for travelers to experience “unreliable service” while prices increase.

The Airlines UK, an organization representing airlines based in the UK, stated, ‘the majority of delays occur due to factors that are completely beyond the airline’s control.’
