Cabo Verde tied 2-2 against Uruguay in their Group H second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which took place at Miami Stadium in Florida, USA, on the 22nd (Korean time). After a 0-0 draw with top contender Spain in their opening game, they have now accumulated points in two straight matches. Having secured two draws and two points, they now have a chance to progress to the Round of 32 in their first-ever World Cup appearance, with Saudi Arabia set to be their final opponent.

Cape Verde is an island country located in the Atlantic Ocean near the western coast of Africa, home to approximately 520,000 residents. This marks their debut in the World Cup finals. In their previous game against Spain, they managed a draw due to an outstanding display by their 40-year-old goalkeeper Vojňa, and in the match against Uruguay, they scored their first-ever goal in the World Cup.

Nevertheless, Uruguay did not give in easily. During the 44th minute of the first half, Maxi Araujo leveled the score, and in stoppage time, Agustín Canobio received a header from Araujo and netted the decisive goal with a right-footed strike. The first half concluded with Cabo Verde behind 1-2.

Uruguay had 66% of the ball and took 17 shots on goal. They also received 11 corner kicks. Nevertheless, Cabo Verde resisted Uruguay’s continuous assault until the 8th minute of extra time in the second half, resulting in another tie.
