A local political conflict reportedly extended to a media organization on Thursday, resulting in an alleged clash and police involvement.

The Mayor of Awutu Senya East, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, along with the head of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region, are alleged to have entered Obaatanpa Radio forcefully.

The authorities are said to have aimed at the station with the purpose of attacking journalists during a live transmission.

As per a GhanaWeb report, the event occurred while hosts were conducting a live broadcast conversation centered on internal conflicts undermining the local chapter of the ruling NDC.

Eyewitnesses report that the MCE came along with a group of unknown individuals who appeared aggressive.

The conflict intensified as the group allegedly used their own keys to secure the radio station’s building, leaving people trapped inside.

Subsequent video showed a large police force sent in to bring calm, as worried employees gathered outside.

The reported attack comes after broadcasts examining a widely covered conflict involving the constituency’s Member of Parliament,Naa Koryoo, and the chairman of the party at the local level.

Officials are anticipated to examine the security incident, which has reignited worries about freedom of the press in the area.

Awutu Senya East NDC in chaos

Earlier, .ghreported that a growing divide had appeared within theAwutu Senya East NDC, placing MP Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor against constituency chairman Stephen Ofosu Agyare.

A member of the executive committee stated the conflict originated from a rejected marriage proposal, while a different group maintained the tensions are due to claims of political marginalization.
