The authorities stated that the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) first detected at a pig farm in Yecheon County, North Gyeongsang Province, tested negative after being re-examined, differing from the previous positive outcome.

On the 28th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs mentioned, “North Gyeongsang Province reported once more that individual pig tests at the farm came back negative, and retesting of pig samples from every barn on the farm also showed negative outcomes.” As a result, the Central Accident Control Headquarters (CACCH) removed quarantine measures, including increasing the crisis alert level, temporary movement restrictions, and setting up quarantine areas. The CACCH intends to examine the testing conditions in North Gyeongsang Province.

The Department of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development stated, “The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) does not consider a case as an FMD outbreak if the virus antigen is found only in the environment and not in pigs.”

The CACCH had previously stated on the previous day that foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed at a pig farm in Yecheon County through environmental testing, following reports of positive results from tests conducted on pigs in the barns at the facility.
