A group of Muslim organizations, led by the Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas, has dismissed the claimed Christian-Christian gubernatorial nomination of the Accord Party for the 2026 Osun State election.

The group expressed disapproval of the ticket, which includes Governor Ademola Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi, calling it inappropriate in relation to the state’s religious variety. It also announced its backing for the governorship candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji (AMBO).

At the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Osogbo on Saturday, the organization’s Secretary-General, Mallam Abdulganiy Ezra, stated that the APC’s list demonstrated fairness, equality, and openness.

“We have thoroughly reviewed the top contenders: Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji from the APC, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke (the current officeholder), and Hon. Najeem Salam of the ADC. Following a comprehensive assessment of their past performances, dedication to maintaining the state’s socio-religious harmony, and political influence, we have collectively decided to back and publicly endorse Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Ezra stated.

He pointed out that “Adeleke, during his campaign three years back, tried to gain Muslim votes by positioning himself as one of us, even incorporating Nurudeen into his name. Yet, his actions have been a disgrace to our religion. We appeal to the people of Osun: Have you ever witnessed a Muslim leading a Parish church? Have you ever seen a pious Muslim wearing a *Sutana?”

This extent of religious deception is what we refer to as hypocrisy, Munafiki Adini. It represents a situation of ‘the voice of Jacob and the hands of Esau.’

Ezra stated, “we assert that it is not prudent, financially, educationally, or socially advisable for us to endure another four years of a Christian-Christian administration. This is a valid issue regarding fairness, and no one can challenge our right to request a place at the table.”
