…APC candidate urges impartial arrest and investigation
Taoreed Mustapha, a prominent member of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, claims he was shot early Saturday morning near his father’s residence by alleged political aggressors following his departure from the Accord Party.
Taoreed, who was injured in the Oluode Aranyin region of Osogbo, stated that he was a member of the Accord Party but chose to exit the party in support of Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji’s (AMBO) candidacy.
While speaking to journalists as the APC candidate, Oyebamiji, visited a private hospital for his treatment, Taoreed described the event, stating, “Around 6:30 to 7 AM, in front of my parents’ house, I suddenly noticed those individuals on three motorcycles, each carrying three people. They quickly got off and pointed at me. That’s all, and then they began shooting at me.”
The candidate for governor from the APC, Oyebamiji, criticized the assault and the wave of political violence, labeling the event as criminal and heartless.
APC is an organized party, and it is one that promotes peace. I genuinely urge our people that this is solely about leadership; it is not a conflict.
He highlighted the importance of conducting the 2026 gubernatorial election in a peaceful manner, stating, “It is crucial for us to recognize that these are our fellow citizens, the people we wish to lead. Therefore, if we begin killing our own, who will be left to govern? I strongly reject this. There is no justification for entering the election with violence against our people.”
He requested the Osun State Police Commissioner to conduct an unbiased inquiry into the cause of the assault.
The head of the APC Campaign Council, Hon Wole Oke, stated, “According to our constitution, the role of government is to provide security and the well-being of citizens. However, in Osun State, under the leadership of the Accord party, we can no longer rest easily. This situation must come to an end.”
