Sri Lanka, July 6 — In a sincere, pioneering effort, AIA Insurance Lanka embodied the genuine essence of Vesak through kindness, unity, and concern for others.

The idea of a ‘dansala’ is strongly connected to Sri Lankan customs and plays a unique role during the Vesak festival. It embodies kindness, welcoming nature, and the essence of sharing by uniting individuals and focusing on the welfare of others.

Drawing from this enduring custom, AIA reinterpreted the dansala in a daring and innovative manner by bringing it onto a train. With its inaugural ‘Dansal Dumriya,’ AIA turned a regular trip into a remarkable adventure.

Hundreds of travelers boarded the morning train departing from Colombo to Matara, with some heading back home for Vesak and others going to participate in the National Vesak Festival in Matara. AIA provided a nutritious and clean breakfast to each passenger at no cost.

The group went through every compartment, offering large servings of ‘kadala’ and ‘manioc,’ traditional regional foods appreciated for their nutritional value and purity. More than just a meal, this considerate act emphasized the significance of beginning the day with a nutritious breakfast, promoting habits that enhance physical health.

In addition to the cuisine, the train transformed into a lively Vesak-themed environment, elegantly adorned to embody the peace and happiness of the festival. This engaging atmosphere enhanced the trip, fostering occasions of bonding and unity among travelers.

Sustainability was central to the initiative. Every part of the meal was presented in ‘kenda’ leaves, without any use of polythene or plastic. Team members made sure to collect and properly dispose of waste, keeping the train clean during the entire trip. From the way food was served to the decorations, recyclable and biodegradable materials were carefully chosen to demonstrate AIA’s dedication to environmental health. The most significant aspect of the dansala was that it was appreciated by all Sri Lankans, regardless of their race, age, or gender. Although it is usually a Buddhist festival, the Dansal Dumriya served as a community event that united people from all backgrounds.

More than 1,500 travelers had a pleasant and memorable experience during ‘AIA Dansal Dumriya’ this Vesak, marking it as a project that created significant influence and enduring recollections.

This distinctive initiative allowed AIA to embody its commitment to assisting individuals in leading healthier, longer, and more fulfilling lives, turning a regular train ride into a dynamic representation of compassion and shared wellness.
