Owing to updates in battery rules,Nintendohas chosen to stop selling original Switch 1 units in Europe starting next year.

Following the release of the Switch 2 last year, it was merely a matter of time before Nintendo stopped producing original Switch consoles.

However, taking into account how widely used the console is – and the reality that they continue to launch new games such asRhythm Paradise Groove– its time on the shelves might be longer than that of a typical console.

It could still hold true in the US and Japan, but this will not be the situation in Europe – due to a modification in European battery regulations that will take effect from February 2027.

As stated by Nintendo, theSwitch 2Consoles and accessories, including Joy-Cons, Switch 2 Pro Controllers, and the Nintendo GameCube controller, will come with a new replaceable battery beginning in autumn this year, in line with the upcoming rules.

Nintendo will also offer battery replacement kits for every product through the Nintendo Store in Europe “in the future,” although a specific date has not been announced.

Due to these regulations, Nintendo has announced that it will stop selling any original Switch consoles—such as the original Switch, the Switch Lite, or the OLED model—in Europe starting from mid-February 2027.
