Prominent players have already been sold, and there are uncertainties regarding their captain and full-backs, so we’ve forecasted what Newcastle’s starting XI could be at the beginning of the season.
The Newcastle United squad will begin their Premier League season at home against Liverpool on August 23. The only thing certain is that Eddie Howe’s starting lineup will be significantly different from last year’s.
Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon have been transferred;Bruno Guimaraes is interested in moving to Arsenal; and the vultures are flying around Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.
Newcastlecan’t sell all of them – can they – so here’s how we envision the Toon appearing at the beginning of the season…
GK: Nick Pope
In 28 games last season, Pope achieved eight shutouts – a solid record considering Newcastle was under constant pressure throughout the campaign.
He is someone reliable with his hands, rarely committing noticeable errors, yet he is constrained when it comes to his feet.
Newcastle might still bring in a new goalkeeper; they remain connected with James Trafford, while Ewen Jaouen has already been secured as a temporary backup.
RB: Tino Livramento
Newcastle’s key asset last season was their full-backs; Livramento and Hall offer the inherent width for a team that aims to physically control the center of the field.
Livramento is a dedicated runner who has a good sense for passing and delivers accurate crosses. Similar to Hall, he plays a crucial role in how the Magpies aim to play under Eddie Howe. Hopefully, he makes a swift recovery from the injury that kept him out.exit England’s World Cup team.
CB: Malick Thiaw
The standout signing from last summer’s transfer window, Thiaw’s first full season with the Toon saw him become a key player in the starting lineup.
A strong defender who is also at ease with the ball. For Newcastle to challenge once more for European competition, they will require him to remain healthy and perform well.
CB: Sven Botman
This man is unable to maintain his fitness.
When he is not injured, the large Dutch central defender is a guaranteed starter. Botman can usually silence most attackers on his best days through a mix of strength and tactical understanding.
He has sustained a few small injuries since the conclusion of the previous campaign, but club officials remain optimistic about his availability for the opening match of the season.
LB: Lewis Hall
Currently among the top left-backs in the league, Newcastle cannot afford to lose him as part of the mass departure from St James’ Park this summer.
Hall has the advantage of time, however, and need not rush to leave.
CM: Johan Manzambi
A £51.5m agreement is reportedly in place with Freiburg to sign the rising Swiss star – but Newcastle still has a chance to be outbid once more.
Manzambi is a machine in the Swiss midfield, and they greatly missed him during the match against Colombia.
He has the ability to take control as a number six, along with the grace and precision of a number 10. A valuable signing for the Magpies if they manage to complete the deal.
CM: Lamine Camara
An exhilarating young talent showcasing his skills atMonaco, Camara is said to be worth approximately £50m.
Newcastle have been fans of the Senegal player for a long time, and they definitely require more midfielders, following Sandro Tonali’s confirmed move and the potential departure of Bruno Guimaraes.
The Magpies have acquired Sean Steur from Ajax, although the 18-year-old could see limited action during his initial full season in England.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes
Will Guimaraes remain a player for Newcastle United when the transfer window closes? Rumors suggest that Arsenal are considering signing the Magpies’ captain, with Guimaraes reportedly asking to depart.
But we’ve watched this film before. Bruno might be aiming to secure a more favorable agreement in a new contract with the club.
The smooth-spoken playmaker has turned into a fan favorite among the Toon Army, and they will be eager for the talisman to remain.
RW: Bazoumana Toure
What a potential acquisition this might become! Hoffenheim allowed Toure to move to Newcastle for £42.5m – a good deal when compared to the figures being discussed for comparable players.
The agile winger uses his quick speed and skillful movements to create one-on-one situations against defenders.
The Ivorian, who is left-footed, has demonstrated his value by scoring five goals and providing seven assists in the Bundesliga during the previous season. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.
LW: Harvey Barnes
The almost man. Consistently a reliable actor, yet certain of his roles indicate that Barnes possesses even more talent within him.
He appeared unstoppable when he netted two goals to reverse the match against Leeds United in January.
With Anthony Gordon no longer there, might this be Barnes’s chance to take over as the key player in the black and white colors?
ST: Yohan Wissa
Last season was a lost cause for Wissa. Stricken by severe injuries and absent for significant portions of the campaign, the striker scored just a single goal in the league.
During the World Cup, Wissa was in exceptional form, reverting to the player who netted 19 league goals in his previous season with Brentford.
He gave England a few tense moments in their Round of 32 match against DR Congo. This is a fresh opportunity for Wissa at St James’.
