The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee announced on the 14th that it will establish a timeline for reviewing the disciplinary measures imposed on Paichai High School’s baseball team, which was suspended from national competitions for six months due to chanting regionally offensive slogans during a match.
The review might occur as soon as the 20th, although the committee recognized the chance that the timeline could be moved to next month.
As per the committee, the schedule for the re-evaluation of Paichai High School is contingent upon the results from the “Disciplinary Review Subcommittee” meeting of the Sports Fairness Committee on the 14th.
If the subcommittee chooses to add Paichai High School’s re-examination request to the agenda of the full Sports Fairness Committee meeting set for the 20th, the re-examination and voting will take place on that day.
On the other hand, should the subcommittee decide not to handle the case on the 20th, the review will be moved to the following month’s session.
A committee member revealed, “We have submitted an invitation to Paichai High School to participate in the Sports Fairness Committee meeting, but it is still unclear if the re-examination will take place this month because of administrative rules.”
As the committee needs to complete the re-examination within 60 days from the application date (July 8), the procedure is anticipated to take place by the next month’s meeting at the latest.

Paichai High School caused a stir on June 29 during the Blue Dragon Flag National High School Baseball Championship when they shouted “Let’s go to Starbucks” and “Tank Day” while playing against Gwangju Jeil High School.
As a reply, the Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA) suspended Paichai High School for six months from national competitions starting July 1, considering the school’s actions as a breach of sporting ethics and a disturbance of the game’s integrity.
Paichai High School extended an apology to Gwangju Jeil High School on July 6 and submitted a request for a review by the committee on July 8.
The day prior, Lee Kyu-yeon, the principal of Gwangju Jeil High School, sought clemency, saying, “Taking into account forgiveness and healing, we request that you find the wisdom and courage to let Paichai High School’s baseball team begin again.”
If the re-examination topic is part of the Sports Fairness Committee’s meeting on July 20 and the punishment is greatly lowered, Paichai High School may be eligible to join the Bonghwangdaegi National High School Baseball Tournament, which is scheduled to begin on August 6.
Nevertheless, if the agenda is not handled in July or the disciplinary penalty is inadequate, their involvement in the tournament could be revoked.
