The cost of tickets for Friday’s FIFA World Cup quarter-final match in Los Angeles has fallen significantly after the United States, the host nation, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal were knocked out of the competition, according to Forbes.
As per the report, the most affordable resold tickets for the game decreased by nearly 60 percent, falling from $2,950 to approximately $1,200 on the secondary platform TickPick following Monday’s Round of 16 matches.
The significant drop came after the United States lost 4-1 to Belgium in Seattle, ending the chances of the home team advancing to the quarterfinals.
Portugal was eliminated from the competition following a 1-0 loss against Spain in Arlington, Texas, concluding Ronaldo’s World Cup journey and taking away one of the event’s most prominent stars from the Los Angeles match.
Forbes pointed out that the lack of participation from both the host country and Ronaldo led to a decrease in interest for the game, which probably would have sold at much higher costs if either team had advanced.
“Spain beat Portugal 1-0 on Monday, concluding Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup journey and reducing the major star appeal in the quarterfinal game in Los Angeles, which probably would have had much higher ticket prices if the U.S. had played against Portugal,” the report stated.
The report mentioned that the average resale prices for all World Cup semi-final games have dropped by 31.5 percent in the last day and 50.4 percent in the past three days, according to the ticket platform SeatPick.
SeatPick also noted that the quantity of tickets accessible on secondary platforms increased to 49,415, compared to 28,285 at the tournament’s beginning.
Among the quarter-final matches, the game on Thursday between France and Morocco in Foxborough, Massachusetts, is currently the most affordable, with tickets beginning at $989, as reported by TickPick.
Although there has been a drop in the cost of quarter-final tickets, interest in the final is still strong.
Forbes stated that the lowest resale ticket price for the World Cup final in New Jersey on July 19 was $9,346 as of Tuesday, though the cost is likely to change based on the teams competing.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is considered the priciest in the event’s history, according to the report, with ticket costs soaring to multiple times the levels seen in earlier tournaments.
