Chairman of Reform UK, Lee Anderson, has called for a public apology from left-leaning LBC host James O’Brien following recent statements made aboutNigel Farage.

On Monday, Mr. O’Brien took to the radio and expressed multiple angry remarks directed at the Reform UK leader, as messages of condolence kept coming in forAnn Widdecombe.

He rejected assertions made by Mr Farage regarding incidents targeting him, following the Reform leader’s declaration that he would step down as an MP to contest a by-election in Clacton.

Throughout his program, the LBC presenter stated: ‘I’ve witnessed this before, I’ve heard the assertions regarding his safety, which typically rely on extensively publicized or fabricated incidents.’

If you don’t wish to face backlash from breastfeeding advocates, avoid making prejudiced and repulsive comments about breastfeeding…

There is something distinct about this moment compared to when he lied about his wheel nuts being tampered with. The instance when he supposedly lied about his house being firebombed.

Mr. O’Brien also launched deeply personal ad hominem criticisms against Mr. Farage in the episode, calling him a ‘terrible excretion… floating in the toilet bowl of public life’.

He intensified his remarks soon after, stating: ‘He is the unflushable waste, he is the permanent stain on the undergarments of British politics’.

Reform UK is calling for a public apology regarding the comments, referencing Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code regulations on hate speech.

The authority’s interpretation of hate speech encompasses types of communication aimed at promoting or encouraging hostility rooted in the political views of an adversary.

In a letter directed to the broadcaster, obtained by the Daily Mail, Mr. Anderson claims that Mr. O’Brien’s statements ‘constitute obvious violations of these regulations.’

Nigel Farage has often faced criticism from media personalities. Nevertheless, describing him as ‘excrement’ and a ‘skid mark’, and then casually suggesting that ‘there’s nothing we can do to get rid of him’ goes too far.

This straightforward, individual aversion towards the man, combined with his previous dismissal of Nigel’s concerns regarding his own well-being (‘These false victimhood stories’) results in extremely unsettling listening.

Reform has urged LBC, along with owner Global, to require Mr. O’Brien to issue a public apology for his comments, and to provide him with a warning regarding broadcasting regulations concerning hate speech.

The party cautions that if this does not happen, they will submit a formal complaint to Ofcom on Monday.

Global was asked for a response.
